Logan director James Mangold teases Dafne Keen’s return as X-23

May 17, 2017 by Ricky Church

When it was released in March, James Mangold’s Logan received near unanimous praise for Hugh Jackman’s final outing as the clawed mutant and former X-Man Wolverine. However, the film’s big takeaway, and breakout star, was Dafne Keen’s performance as Laura/X-23. The young clone quickly became a fan-favourite character thanks to Keen, and there’s been a lot of speculation as to whether we’ll see her reprising the role for a future X-Men movie.

Last night at the Alamo Drafthouse, Fox and Mangold held a special screening of Logan Noir, the black and white version of the film, followed by a Q&A session with Mangold, Jackman and producer Hutch Parker. In the Q&A, Mangold was asked whether or not audiences would see Laura again and if Mangold would once again direct Keen should she return. While it wasn’t fully confirmed, Mangold said conversations certainly have been happening in the wake of Logan’s success.

“Anything’s possible,” Mangold said to the audience. “I’ve certainly talked to them about it. I even talked to them about it before we made the movie. I thought she was just such a great character, but with what Dafne did, I think that certainly that’s possible.”

Spoilers for Logan follow…

In 2014, Marvel killed Wolverine in the comics and Laura took on the Wolverine identity in the wake of his death. With Logan killing the character off as well, seemingly putting an end to Hugh Jackman’s time as Wolverine, Fox could follow the path Marvel set and have Laura become the new Wolverine. Conversely, Laura was also member of the X-Force before becoming Wolverine, so she could even appear in the X-Force spin-off Fox is currently developing.

Would you like to see X-23 back in another X-Men movie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Logan reunites Hugh Jackman with The Wolverine director James Mangold and also stars Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Elise Neal.
