Maika Monroe is being followed again in the trailer for Watcher

March 16, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Following her star-making turns in It Follows and The Guest, Maika Monroe is back being pursued by strange forces in the trailer for Shudder and IFC Films gaslighting horror Watcher.

Telling a Rear Window-like story of a woman who’s adamant she’s being watched by a man in the building opposite to her, Watcher has just screened to positive reviews at the SXSW Festival, where we called it a thriller “elevated by its taut direction, Maika Monroe’s solid lead performance, and its well-placed “believe women” context”. You can read that appraisal here, and watch the creepy new trailer below….

In WATCHER, Julia (Maika Monroe) joins her husband (Karl Glusman) when he relocates to his family’s native Romania for a new job. Having recently abandoned her acting career, she finds herself frequently alone and unoccupied. One night, people-watching from her picture window, she spots a vague figure in an adjacent building, who seems to be looking back at her. Soon after, while alone at a local movie theater, Julia’s sense of being watched intensifies, and she becomes certain she’s being followed — could it be the same unknown neighbor? Meanwhile, a serial killer known as The Spider stalks the city.

Watcher will open in cinemas on June 3rd, 2022, before streaming on Shudder later in the year.
