Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde’s Avengelyne enlists Poor Things writer Tony McNamara

May 2, 2024 by EJ Moreno

As revealed last month, Margot Robbie is set to team up with Olivia Wilde for an adaptation of Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld’s Avengelyne, and now comes word from Deadline that Poor Things’ Tony McNamara has came on board to write the screenplay.

“This incredibly humbling journey to bring Avengelyne to life onscreen started through my relationship with super-producer Simon Kinberg, who told me he had a perfect fit for the material and asked me to trust him,” Liefeld told Variety. “Next thing, I’m meeting with Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde, and the connection was electric!”

“They told me that they wanted Tony McNamara to write it, and after a pair of meetings, Tony is on board, and things could not be more exciting,”  It’s all a result of Margot, Olivia, and Simon working their magic to assemble this incredible team of creatives, all intent on creating a cinematic experience like no other!”

As per Deadline, “Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. She was the most feared warrior in heaven’s Warhost, having single-handedly broken into Pandemonium, the outer fortress of hell, to confront the devil himself. She is a fallen angel, banished from heaven by God after being tricked into questioning his love for humans. Avengelyne was stripped of all her angelic abilities, other than her great strength and her blood, which, once extracted from her body, could be used as a weapon or a miracle when it is empowered by quoting verses from the Bible. Avengelyne uses her powers to fight demons on Earth and is being groomed to be humankind’s last hope in a coming Armageddon.”

Warner Bros is reportedly close to finalizing a seven-figure rights deal. Let us know on our social channels @FlickeringMyth if you’re excited about how the project is shaping up…
