Margot Robbie in talks to star in Tim Burton’s Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman

August 2, 2025 by Matt Rodgers

Warner Bros. set out to capitalise on the billion-dollar success of Barbie when they announced that Tim Burton would be directing a remake of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, and now it appears they’re turning to that film’s star to embody the titular giant.

Per Variety’s report Margot Robbie is in early talks to tower above buildings in another female-empowerment fable, and she’s also set to produce the remake with her LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara.

Gone Girl‘s Gillian Flynn had been hired to write the screenplay, but following her initial draft she has exited the project to work on other things.

Released in 1958 by Warner Bros., Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman told the story of of a wealthy heiress whose close encounter with an enormous alien in his round spacecraft causes her to grow into a giantess, complicating her marriage which is already troubled by a philandering husband. Directed by Nathan Hertz, the film starred Allison Hayes, William Hudson and Yvette Vickers.

This would be the second remake of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, with Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap II) helming a 1993 TV version, which featured Daryl Hannah in the starring role.

Next up for Robbie is Kogonada’s fantasy-romance A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside Colin Farrell, followed by Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic Wuthering Heights, which comes out next February.
