Marisa Tomei offered Aunt May role in Spider-Man reboot

July 8, 2015 by James Garcia

Originally published July 8, 2015. Updated April 13, 2018.

According to Variety, Sony and Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man may have found its new Aunt May: Academy Award-winner Marisa Tomei.

This will mark the first major tentpole for Tomei, who is most famous for roles in dramas like The Wrestler and comedies like My Cousin Vinny. The new report is unclear about whether or not she’s officially landed the role, but an offer from the studio is on the table.

Just as Peter Parker gets younger with each passing Spider-Man reboot, so does the role of Aunt May. Sam Raimi cast 87 year-old Rosemary Harris in the role, while Marc Webb went slightly younger and cast 68 year-old Sally Field in the role for the Amazing Spider-Man films. Tomei would be the youngest Aunt May yet, at only 50.

Tell us, are you happy with this casting? Sound off in the comments below.

Directed by Jon Watts, the currently untitled Spider-Man reboot will sling into theaters on July 28th, 2017 and stars Tom Holland in the title role.
