Last week the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrived online, giving us our first look at Disney and Lucasfilm’s hotly-anticipated Star Wars sequel trilogy. Coinciding with the release of the trailer, a clip began surfacing on YouTube from over 30 years ago, which sees Mark Hamill briefly discussing George Lucas’ plans for Star Wars: Episode VII on the British breakfast TV show TV-am way back in 1983.

“I am so loyal to George and I owe him so much,” stated Hamill, who is returning to the role of Luke Skywalker in The Force Awakens alongside fellow Original Trilogy stars Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia). “He at one time said ‘would you consider playing an Obi-Wan type character handing Excalibur down to the next generation?’ I said ‘when would that be?’ and at the time he said ‘Oh, around 2011.’ I thought ‘gee’… as much as I’d like to have a job lined up at the turn of the century I was figuring out how old I’d be at that point.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 18th 2015 and sees returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) joined by John Boyega (Attack the Block), Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis), Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Domhnall Gleeson (Dredd), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Jessica Henwick (Spirit Warriors), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
