Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War hits $1 billion at the worldwide box office in record time

May 5, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After smashing records for the biggest domestic and global openings in box office history last weekend, Avengers: Infinity War has now become the fastest movie to reach $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Infinity War has hit the magical number just 11 days after it began its international roll out, beating the previous record of 12 days set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the end of 2015.

The Marvel Studios blockbuster is expected to comfortably retain top spot at the box office this weekend, and will presumably surpass The Avengers’ $1.52 billion by next weekend to become Marvel’s biggest ever release.

How far it can go remains to be seen, but the movie has its Chinese opening to come on Friday, May 11th, and a strong performance in that market will likely propel it to the $2 billion mark – a milestone which has only ever been achieved by Avatar, Titanic and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L.
