Marvel’s Avengers is officially dead as Crystal Dynamics ceases support

January 22, 2023 by Olly Dyche

Crystal Dynamics has confirmed in a statement that Marvel’s Avengers will receive its final update (version 2.8) on March 31st, 2023. After this update Crystal Dynamics shared that they will no longer add any new content or features to the game, and as of September 30th 2023 all official support to the game will cease.

Although support from Crystal Dynamics is ending, the studio made it very clear that the game’s single player and multiplayer will still be available. However, any issues regarding gameplay or bugs will no longer be addressed after September 30th, 2023.

Likewise, Crystal Dynamics have confirmed that the cosmetics marketplace will shut down and with the final update on March 31st, 2023 players will no longer be able to purchase credits that were previously used to purchase cosmetics in game. For the players that do still have credits in the bank will instead have their credits transfered into in-game resources, to which Crystal Dynamics provided a table below to better understand…

Its not all bad news however, as Crystal Dynamics went on to state that “starting March 31st, 2023 we will make all the game’s Marketplace, Challenge Card and Shipment cosmetic content available for all players for free”. Yes, this means that the overpriced skins, will be completely free as of March 31st, 2023. Every Outfit, Takedown, Emote and Nameplate from the Marketplace, Challenge Cards and Shipments will be totally free for all players who own Marvel’s Avengers, after the games final update on March 31, 2023.

The statement from the studio later goes on to say that “Gifting the full library” of cosmetics “is a way to thank our community by letting everyone experience the breadth and depth of content in Marvel’s Avengers“.

Sadly, for players who don’t own a Playstation, Spider-Man will still remain a PS exclusive.

Its no secret that Marvel’s Avengers had a very rocky and critically panned release in 2020, which was promised to get better. However, this was not the case and what players were promised never came to fruition as most expected Crystal Dynamics to cease support for Marvel’s Avengers sooner or later. Now, after 2 years of support and a total of 12 heroes and some new story expansions, Marvel’s Avengers has sadly, officially come to an end.

It isn’t confirmed yet what project the team will be moving in too, but it will most likely be to work on the upcoming Tomb Raider video game, developed by Crystal Dynamics.
