Marvel’s Black Widow will reportedly start shooting in June

February 8, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Last week it was reported by Production Weekly that filming on Marvel’s long-awaited Black Widow solo movie was set to get underway in the UK at the end of February, but now comes word that production isn’t actually slated to begin until June.

The news is widely being reported as Marvel delaying production for unspecified reasons; however, we should stress that Production Weekly is not always a reliable source of information and the site is often wrong when it comes to its listings (see the recent World War Z 2 and Bill & Ted 3 reports as examples). So, it is highly likely that a February start was never on the table, especially as we’ve had no casting news whatsoever beyond Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff.

Plot details on Black Widow are being kept tightly under wraps, but it is thought that the movie will be a prequel, dealing with Natasha’s defection to the West where she ends up working for S.H.I.E.L.D..

Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome) is on board to direct the Black Widow movie from a script by Jac Schaeffer (TiMER), and it is expected to hit cinemas on May 1st 2020.
