Melonie Diaz cast in Charmed reboot

February 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that The CW’s Charmed has found the first of its three sisters, with Melonie Diaz (The Belko Experiment, Fruitvale Station) cast as Mel, “a passionate, outspoken activist who loses her way in the wake of family tragedy.”

Executive produced by Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin), the new Charmed is described as a “fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series which centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.”

Diaz’s casting comes hot on the heels of Ser’Darius Blain (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), who joined the pilot earlier this week in the role of Galvin, boyfriend to Mel’s sister Macy.

Charmed originally ran on The WB for eight seasons between 1998 and 2006, and featured a cast that included Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan.
