Michael Bay may direct Lobo movie for DC

February 10, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Having wrapped up one franchise with Transformers, it looks like filmmaker Michael Bay may be set to join another, with THR reporting that Warner Bros. wants the director for its long-gestating DC Comics adaptation Lobo.

According to the site, the studio is yet to begin official talks with Bay, but is keen to have him in the director’s chair for the project. However, it’s said that the current script has a budget north of $200 million, and both Warner Bros. and Bay want this brought down. As such, Wonder Woman scribe Jason Fuchs is set to pen a rewrite with the intention of scaling down the scope.

Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo made his first appearance in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and started life as a villain before being reimagined as an interstellar bounty hunter and anti-hero.

A film adaptation of Lobo has been in the works at Warner Bros. for over a decade, with the likes of Guy Ritchie (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) and Brad Peyton (San Andreas) having been attached to direct. Peyton was set to reunite with his San Andreas star Dwayne Johnson on the film, before Johnson opted instead to take on a different DC role in Black Adam.
