Michael Fassbender calls Assassin’s Creed “something special”

January 19, 2016 by admin

It was reported over the weekend that the big screen adaptation of popular video game series Assassin’s Creed has finished filming and has now entered post-production. With video game movie adaptations not having the best of reputations (just look at the performance of last year’s Hitman: Agent 47), gamers are still waiting for that truly ‘great’ video game movie.

Well, Michael Fassbender thinks they’ve got it.

“It was great,” he told the Wall Street Journal of the film’s production.. “It was a huge learning experience. To be a producer on it as well was very educational. I think we’ve got something special. I think we’ve done something original in this genre.”

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. Assassin’s Creed stars Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, 12 Years a Slave) and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, La Vie en Rose).

Assassin’s Creed is set for release on December 21st 2016. The film reunites Fassbender with Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard, while the cast also includes Michael K. Williams (Ghostbusters), Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Brendan Gleeson (Calvary) and Ariane Labed (The Lobster).
