Back to the Future star and Canadian icon Michael J. Fox will return to TV in the third season of Apple’s hit series Shrinking with Jason Segal and Harrison Ford.
Fox has been a well-known and beloved actor for decades, ever since his introduction in the 1980s series Family Ties and making his big break with blockbusters Back to the Future and Teen Wolf. On the TV side he has starred in Spin City, Boston Legal, The Good Wife and The Michael J. Fox Show, but largely stepped away from film and TV due to his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was the subject of Apple TV+’s award-winning documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie which focused on his career and Parkinson’s diagnosis.
There are no details on who Fox will play, but it is likely to be connected to Ford’s character Paul Rhoades who was also diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Shrinking will mark Fox’s return to TV after briefly reprising his Good Wife role in the spin-off The Good Fight as well as a reunion with Spin City creator Bill Lawrence.
Fox will join fellow newcomers Jeff Daniels (The Martian), Sherry Cola (Nobody Wants This) and Isabella Gomez (One Day at a Time) in the third season.
Shrinking is written and executive produced by Segel, Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein with Lawrence serving as showrunner. Ashley Nicole Black and Bill Posley will serve as executive producers for the third season.
Shrinking follows a grieving therapist (played by Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives…including his own.
Shrinking features Jason Segal, Harrison Ford, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie and Lukita Maxwell.
