Michael Rooker joins the cast of Fast & Furious 9

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Michael Rooker has joined the cast for Universal’s upcoming sequel, Fast & Furious 9, reuniting him with Groot voice actor, Vin Diesel.

According to Deadline, Rooker will be taking on the role of Buddy, but a description of this character has not been released as of yet.

The film is to be directed by Justin Lin, who will be directing his fifth Fast & Furious film, with the screenplay being written by Dan Casey. Diesel is producing the sequel through his One Race Films and Lin for Perfect Storm Entertainment.

Rooker is most well known for his role as Yondu in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, as well as Merle in the early seasons of The Walking Dead. Rooker’s other credits include True Detective, Slither, and Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

The actor joins returning franchise stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Chris ‘Lucacris’ Bridges, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren alongside new additions John Cena (Bumblebee), Finn Cole (Peaky Blinders), Anna Sawai (Ninja Assassin), Vinnie Bennett (Ghost in the Shell) and MMA fighter  Francis Ngannou.
