Michelle Williams in talks for Sony’s Venom film

September 27, 2017 by Ricky Church

Sony and director Ruben Fleischer’s Venom film may be getting another high-profile addition to its cast, with Variety reporting that Manchester By The Sea’s Michelle Williams has entered talks to join the movie opposite Tom Hardy.

Williams is said to be up for the role of a district attorney who is possibly Hardy’s romantic interest. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Riz Ahmed was cast in the film last month in a mystery role and is rumoured to also appear in Sony’s other Spider-Man spin-off Silver & Black, featuring the characters Silver Sable and Black Cat.

Venom, along with Silver & Black, will be a separate universe from Spider-Man: Homecoming and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ever since The Amazing Spider-Man films, Sony has been determined to create their own connected Spider-Man universe, setting up an abandoned Sinister Six film and even planning a solo movie around Aunt May before the studio struck a deal with Marvel.

Venom will be released on October 5th, 2018.
