Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson rumored for Lisbeth Salander role in The Girl in the Spider’s Web

March 14, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Although David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a critical and commercial success (the film even generated a lead actress Oscar nomination for Rooney Mara), it has taken roughly six years to finally get confirmation of another entry in the Millennium movie series.

Bizarrely, where we stand is that the next instalment in the franchise will be an adaptation of the fourth novel, titled The Girl in the Spider’s Web, with a new director in Don’t Breathe‘s Fede Alvarez, and major roles recast.

With that in mind, Variety is reporting that Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson are currently in talks to take over the role of Lisbeth Salander from Rooney Mara. Both seem like fitting candidates as they have played similarly dark and troubled female characters in the past.

Natalie Portman is recently coming off an Oscar-nominated performance playing Jackie Kennedy in Jackie, while Scarlett Johansson can soon be seen in the film adaptation of the Japanese manga Ghost in the Shell.

Let us know your thoughts on The Girl in the Spider’s Web and who you’d like to see taking on the role of Lisbeth Salander in the comments below…
