J.A. Bayona’s plane crash drama Society of the Snow gets first trailer from Netflix

August 24, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

J.A. Bayona is returning to Spanish-language filmmaking for the first time in 14 years to tell yet another story of humanity against the odds with Society of the Snow, the true tale of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed in the heart of the Andes in 1972, forcing those who made it to face unimaginable choices in order to survive.

Based on the book La Sociedad de la Nieve by Pablo Vierci, Society of the Snow has been adapted by Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques and Nicolás Casariego. Amongst the cast are Enzo Vogrincic, Matías Recalt, Agustín Pardella, Diego Vegezzi, Esteban Kukuriczka, Rafael Federman, and Andy Pruss.

Selected to close this year’s Venice International Film Festival, Netflix has just dropped the first trailer, which you can check out below…

On October 13 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashed in the Andes. Only 29 of the 45 passengers survived the crash.

Society of the Snow will close the Venice International Film Festival and land on Netflix soon after.
