The hotly-anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Things is fast approaching, but that won’t be the last we see of the Hawkins crew as Netflix has officially unveiled its upcoming animated series spinoff Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 during a presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling,” said Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, who will serve as executive producers on the animated series through their Upside Down Pictures banner. They are joined by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps, along with Eric Robles of Flying Bark Productions.
“We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with –– the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues …” the Duffers added.
While details are scarce, THR reports that Tales From ’85 will “be set in Hawkins ‘in the stark winter of 1985’ between seasons 2 and 3 of the original live-action series and feature the show’s original characters — with one new edition, Nikki, a tough, mohawk-wearing gal — fighting ‘new monsters and unravel[ing] a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town.'”
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is set to hit Netflix at some point in 2026. Meanwhile, it was recently been announced that the fifth and final season of the flagship live-action show will arrive in three parts on November 26th, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve. Check out the announcement teaser here.
