Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit will not return for season 2

September 23, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Although Netflix’s hit series The Queen’s Gambit found success at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards by taking home 11 Emmys out of 18 nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, this is the end of the TV series.

During an interview with Deadline, executive producers Scott Frank and William Holberg confirmed that there will be no season two and no sequel series as they are concerned that they may not be able to match the first season in terms of creativity.

“I feel like we told the story we wanted to tell, and I worry — let me put it differently — I’m terrified that if we try to tell more, we would ruin what we’ve already told.”

Despite the Netflix series coming to an end, it was already been confirmed that The Queen’s Gambit is being turned into a stage musical. However, there is currently no additional news on the project.
