Netflix’s Black Summer has been renewed for a second season

November 21, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Netflix has renewed the Jaime King-led zombie thriller series Black Summer for an eight-episode second season, according to a new report by Variety.

King will reprise her role as the lead character Rose, in addition to being an executive producer. Justin Chu Card as Spears and Christine Lee as Kyungsun will also be returning for the second season. The next season is scheduled to begin shooting next year in Alberta, Canada.

Created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams, creators and co-executive producers of the SyFy series Z Nation, Black Summer follows survivors of a cataclysmic event who contend with zombies — and each other — to reach a military evacuation site. Rose, a mother torn from her daughter who embarks upon a journey, stopping at nothing to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, she must brave a hostile new world and make brutal decisions during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.

Although Schaefer and Hyams served as co-showrunners on Season one, Hyams will serve as the sole showrunner on Season 2. The pair serve as writers and executive producers on the series along with Abram Cox.
