A few weeks ago the heavily anticipated second season of Daredevil dropped on Netflix, which along with Season One and Jessica Jones, helped to cement Marvel’s television partnership with the streaming giants as maybe some of the best work they’ve put out there so far. Next up is Luke Cage, which begins streaming on September 30th, and will see Mike Colter return as the indestructible strongman.
While we’ve had some minor mentions of incidents that have already happened within the MCU, it looks like Luke Cage could be the first Netflix/Marvel TV product to actually have a big screen tie-in with its movie counterparts.
According to Comicbook.com, Alfre Woodward – who has a recurring role in Luke Cage as a New York politician – will first turn up in Captain America: Civil War. It’s unknown exactly what her role in Civil War will be – probably quite small considering the already huge cast – but her name was seen on casting sheets. Some sources are claiming that she will have a “small but pivotal role” in the beginning of Civil War, although some reports are suggesting that she may be playing another character entirely.

Woodward plays Mariah Dillard, who gets caught in the conflict between Cage and the villainous “Cottonmouth” Stokes, who happens to be her cousin. Little is known of her character as yet but she is said to be a powerful leader within the Harlem community who wants to usher in a “new era of change to the streets she grew up on”.
Her character may also be a new version of Black Mariah, a drug dealer and occasional villain to Luke Cage and Iron Fist, although that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
