New details on the Friday the 13th TV series

March 16, 2015 by admin

Since the announcement of a Friday the 13th TV series (a new one, not the old one) last year, details have been either sketchy or non-existent. Originally we heard that it was going to “be like Smallville” according to Friday the 13th creator Sean S. Cunningham and it would likely not feature Jason just killing teenagers. There was also some talk of the series heading to the web rather than TV screens with Cunningham saying Netflix would be the perfect home for them.

Over the weekend at MonsterMania Q&A event with Cunningham and other Friday the 13th alumni, some new details emerged.

According to an attendee, Cunningham revealed that they are in talks with The CW (current home to Arrow and The Flash) who are very interested in the show, which would be centred around the REAL Crystal Lake and the effect the Friday the 13th movies have on their lives. From what Cunningham said, this means they can ground Jason into reality, as the films would be based off their real-life killings of a deranged woodsman who targets teens. So, it’s like a cross between Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. This sort of idea was also in one of the early drafts of Freddy vs. Jason, which saw the real-life Jason on trial for murder.

Nothing official yet, and this is fourth-hand information at this point. But, food for thought.
