New Taylor Sheridan series Landman announces cast with Billy Bob Thornton leading

January 29, 2024 by Ricky Church

Taylor Sheridan’s domination of TV drama continues to grow as Variety has announced the cast of his upcoming new series Landman focused on the world of oil rigs. The series will be led by Billy Bob Thornton (Goliath) with Sheridan executive producing.

Based on the podcast Boomtown, Sheridan’s Landman is set in West Texas and follows the “upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fuelling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”

Thornton leads the cast as Tommy Norris, a crisis manager for an oil company. Starring alongside him are Ali Larter (Heroes), Michelle Randolph (1923), Jacob Lofland (Mud), Kayla Wallace (When Calls The Heart), James Jordan (Yellowstone), Mark Collie (Nashville) and Paulina Chávez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia).

Randolph, Lofland and Larter will star alongside Thornton as the series leads of the Norris family. Randolph will play Ainsley Norris, “the wild and strong-willed seventeen-year-old daughter of Tommy Norris.” Lofland will play Cooper Norris, “Tommy’s son, who is new to the demanding work in the oil and gas fields of west Texas.” Larter will play Angela, Tommy’s ex-wife.

As for the rest of the rest, Wallace will play Rebecca Savage, “an extremely capable and intimidating liability attorney sent to West Texas to clean up a mess.” Jordan will play Dale Bradley, “a petroleum engineer and a blue-collar bear of a man who manages and works with roughnecks in the oil fields. He’s also Tommy Norris’ roommate.” Collie will play Sheriff Joeberg, “a West Texas sheriff” and Chávez will play Ariana, “a young mother whose family has suffered a misfortune.”

Landman is just the latest series in Sheridan’s growing TV empire. His biggest series to date is Yellowstone, the Kevin Costner-led series which is due to end with the second half of its fifth season later this year. Yellowstone has already had multiple spin-offs in the form of the prequel series 1883 and 1923 as well as Lawman: Bass Reeves, which is itself a spin-off of 1883. A sequel series to Yellowstone is also already in development while Sheridan’s other current series include Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King and Special Ops: Lioness.

Nickell and Megan Creydt for Texas Monthly. Peter Feldman will also serve as a co-executive producer with MTV Entertainment Studios overseeing production.
