Nico Parker joins The Last of Us as Joel’s daughter

July 1, 2021 by Ricky Church

HBO’s upcoming series adaptation of the hit Playstation game The Last of Us has added Nico Parker (The Third Day) to the cast, per Variety.

Parker will play Sarah, the daughter of Pedro Pascal’s Joel. Sarah is a young teenager who Last of Us players were introduced to in the opening moments of the video game and witnessed the collapse of society as the mysterious infection quickly spread across their home and rest of the country.

Parker joins a cast that includes Pascal, Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie, Gabriel Luna’s as Joel’s brother Tommy and Merle Dandridge reprising her role from the video game as Marlene, a leader of the Fireflies resistance group dedicated to creating a cure for the virus.

The Last of Us is “set 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed and centres on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be key to a cure for a deadly pandemic. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle the 14-year-old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

The series will be directed by Jasmila Žbanić, Ali Abbasi, and Kantemir Balagov from a script by Craig Mazin, the creator of HBO’s acclaimed limited series Chernobyl, and Neil Druckmann, the writer and creative director of the game series.

Parker will next be seen in Warner Bros.’ sci-fi Reminiscence alongside Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson.
