Nicolas Cage gives perfect comment regarding Marvel: “I don’t need to be in the MCU, I’m Nic Cage”

March 11, 2023 by EJ Moreno

If you were to ask one celebrity to give you a clickbait-worthy title, it’s Nicolas Cage.

The man is filled with memorable quotes and hot takes, and his latest comment could be one of his best yet. Cage recently opened up about all things superheroes, from his almost-Superman movie to his admiration for Batman Returns director Tim Burton.

Speaking to the Miami Film Festival, Cage got candid regarding Marvel, going back to how Stan Lee helped get him his iconic acting name.

Speaking to Variety, Cage walks the line carefully when discussing the MCU. “I’ve gotta be nice about Marvel movies because I named myself after a Stan Lee character named Luke Cage. What am I going to do, put Marvel movies down? Stan Lee is my surrealistic father. He named me.”

He adds, “I understand what the frustration is. I get it. But I think there’s plenty of room for everybody. I’m seeing movies like Tar. I’m seeing all kinds of artistic and independently driven movies. I think there’s plenty of room for everybody.”

But in one of the most Nicolas Cage comments ever, the actor feels he doesn’t need to work with the famous superhero brand. “I don’t need to be in the MCU; I’m Nic Cage.”

Nicolas Cage has starred in three Marvel-related movies, including 2007’s Ghost Rider and its 2011 sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Both films were critically panned and led the actor to avoid big-budget mainstream projects for quite some time. Cage did lend his voice to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, voicing Spider-Man Noir, but as for whether we might see Cage reprising his Ghost Rider role in the MCU’s upcoming multiverse insanity Avengers: Secret Wars…?

Nicolas Cage will next star as Count Dracula in Renfield, coming to cinemas this April.
