Nicolas Cage says Prisoners of the Ghostland “might be the wildest movie I’ve ever made”

December 17, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After spending several years filling the bottom shelves of video stores (or the Streaming Age equivalent, anyway), Nicolas Cage is enjoying somewhat of a career resurgence lately with well-received turns in Mom and Dad and Mandy, as well as a couple of high profile animated superhero outings in Teen Titans Go! to the Movies and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Coming up for Cage is Prisoners of the Ghostland, the English language debut of Japanese filmmaker Sion Sono (Love Exposure, Antiporno), and during an interview with Screen Anarchy, the Oscar-winner has described the project as possibly the wildest movie he’s ever made.

“I’m thrilled about it! It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read before. It might be the wildest movie I’ve ever made, and that’s saying something. It’s out there. I wear a skintight black leather jumpsuit with grenades attached to different body parts, and if I don’t rescue the governor’s daughter from this state line where they’re all ghosts and bring her back they’re gonna blow me up. It’s just crazy. It’s way out there.”

Based on that description, Cage doesn’t seem to be exaggerating when he calls it wild and out there, and it definitely sounds like one to watch out for.
