Olivia Cooke replaces Maika Monroe in vampire thriller Brides

May 30, 2025 by Ricky Church

Chloe Ukuno’s upcoming vampire-themed Brides has seen a change in its lead star. It Follows and Longlegs star Makia Monroe has had to drop out of the film and Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon) is now stepping in to take on her role.

Monroe is also set to lead the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel Reminders of Him, which has forced a scheduling conflict between her starring in both films. Monroe had to bow out of Okuno’s film which led to her and Neon to cast Cooke in the lead.

Brides will follows Sally Bishop (Cooke) and her husband, who travel to a remote Italian villa whose owner, a mysterious count, takes a peculiar interest in Sally.

The film was written by Okuno, which will mark her second feature film after 2022’s horror Watcher. Okuno has also directed a segment in V/H/S/94 as well as episodes of Let The Right One In and Teacup.

Cooke is currently filming the third season of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon where she stars as Queen Alicent Hightower. She recently wrapped Amazon’s series Girlfriend.
