Ahead of the series premiere of the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood this August, Starz has given an early second season renewal to the show with production now underway in Scotland.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood follows dual narratives of the love stories between Claire and Jamie Fraser’s parents in World War I and 18th century Scotland. The prequel will be showrun by Matthew B. Roberts with Outlander creator and showrunner Ronald D. Moore serving as executive producer.
“The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Outlander: Blood of My Blood has been extraordinary and we’re thrilled to continue these epic love stories in Season Two,” Roberts commented. “Just as audiences fell in love with Jamie and Claire, we hope viewers will be enamored by these new couples when they meet them this summer.”
Outlander is based on the historical fantasy books by Diana Gabaldon and premiered in 2014. The series follows Claire Randall, a nurse in post-World War II England who travels with her husband to Scotland and ends up being sent back in time to 18th century Scotland, falling in love with the highlander Jamie Fraser just as the Jacobite rising is beginning. Their love spans over the centuries as their family travel between the two points in time and eventually become involved in the American Revolution.
Outlander wrapped its eighth and final season last September with a premiere date likely for next year. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will premiere on August 8th.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood introduces viewers to two new couples —Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) —who fight against all odds to be together as their love stories unfold across time. From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th century Scotland, two fated love stories must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, intersecting in surprising and unforeseen ways.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood stars Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Hermione Corfield, Jeremy Irvine, Rory Alexander, Sam Retford, Séamus McLean Ross, Conor MacNeill, Brian McCardie, Jhon Lumsden, Sara Vickers, Peter Mullan, Sally Messham, Terence Rae, Sadhbh Malin, Ailsa Davidson, Annabelle Dowler and Harry Eaton.
