Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen weren’t asked back for X-Men: Apocalypse

January 17, 2015 by Robert Kojder

In an interview with Larry King, Patrick Stewart announced that neither he nor Ian McKellen were asked to be a part of the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse movie. It’s a little bit strange considering the two have appeared in every installment save for Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class, but director Bryan Singer’s goal is to explore a younger cast of our beloved characters.

“I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters,” Stewart said. “And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.”

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release May 19th, 2016 with James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) returning and Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year) set to play Apocalypse.
