Presumed Innocent becomes anthology series with Rachel Brosnahan leading season 2

June 11, 2025 by Ricky Church

Apple TV+’s legal drama thriller Presumed Innocent is becoming an anthology series. The first season was led by Jake Gyllenhaal, and now it will have Superman and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan taking centre stage as the lead for season two.

Presumed Innocent season two will be based on the upcoming legal thriller Dissection of a Murder, author Jo Murray’s debut novel. The book is scheduled for release next year and will see Brosnahan as young attorney Leila Reynolds in her first murder case. The book’s blurb reads:

When Leila Reynolds is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her. To make things worse, he’s refusing to talk. How is she supposed to prove herself on what appears to be an unwinnable case?

Brosnahan is known for her roles in House of Cards and as Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel in Amazon’s hit comedy series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She will soon be seen as intrepid Daily Planet reporter and Superman’s love interest Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman opposite David Corenswet.

Presumed Innocent was created by David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams from the pair’s David E. Kelley Productions, Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Discovery. Kelley will continue to serve as showrunner for the second season alongside Erica Lipez. Brosnahan will also serve as an executive producer with Gyllenhaal and Presumed Innocent author Scott Turow executive producing.

The first season was based on Turow’s 1987 novel Presumed Innocent with Gyllenhaal starring as Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor who is the prime suspect for a murder of a woman he was having an affair with. The book was also made in a 1990 movie with Harrison Ford in the lead role.
