Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time getting HD remake

September 11, 2020 by Ricky Church

Ubisoft has announced their classic third-person adventure game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is getting an HD remake. Watch the announcement trailer below…

The franchise began in 1989, being one of the oldest video game franchises in history with the first two games receiving a lot of praise and is still highly regarded. It received a reboot from Ubisoft in 2003 with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time which propelled the franchise back to popularity and won several awards. The success of Sands of Time later spawned two sequels, The Warrior Within and The Two Thrones, as well as a few spin-offs. The game also served as inspiration for the 2010 live-action film adaptation of the same name starring Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince.

Prince of Persia‘s gameplay style of free-flow running and combat mechanics served as the basis for Ubisoft’s hit franchise Assassin’s Creed, which itself was borne out of an idea for a Prince of Persia sequel. The gameplay has also influenced many other games such as the Batman: Arkham series and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War.

Unlike most remasters and remakes, Ubisoft has completely updated the gameplay to better reflect the advancements made since its release. The camera, controls and combat system have been rebuilt for the current consoles with the updated graphics. Additionally, players will be able to unlock the original Prince of Persia game that can be accessed from the menu at any time.

Embark on a journey as the Prince to prevent the powerful Sands of Time from falling into the hands of the treacherous Vizier. Master the Sands of Time and use your dagger to control time itself, fight cursed enemies and solve puzzles along the way.

Experience the original epic tale of the Prince on his journey for redemption, travel back in time with the return of the Prince’s original voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal, and discover a brave new Farah. Fight new enemy character models and enjoy entirely new cinematic sequences along with enhanced voices, sounds, parkour animations, and soundtrack.  Master the Sands of Time and use your dagger to reverse, accelerate, freeze, and slow time itself while solving puzzles along the way.

Immerse yourself in ancient Persia with more realistic graphics, pre-baked rendering and VFX as you fight cursed enemies along your journey. Camera, controls, and combat have been completely rebuilt and updated for today’s standards, players can choose between original or modernized mapping. Unlock the original Prince of Persia game (’92 Mac version) along your adventure and access it from the Main Menu whenever you want. Even more surprises await!

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will be released on January 21, 2021.
