Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood tracking $30 million opening

July 4, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Three weeks out from its release and the official tracking figures are now in for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Variety reporting that Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film is tracking a domestic opening weekend of between $28 million to $30 million.

Some predictions have gone as high as $50 million, although most analysts expect the film to fall short of the likes of Inglourious Basterds ($38 million) and Django Unchained ($30.1 million) but enjoy a lengthy run into August against blockbuster competition like The Lion King and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

Sony has reportedly pumped $90 million into Once Upon a Time in Hollywood before advertising, so the studio will certainly be hoping that is the case. If the rave reviews coming out of Cannes are any indication, executives will surely be feeling confident.
