Deadline is reporting that Oscar Winner Rachel Weisz (The Lobster) is in negotiations to star in Fox Searchlight’s My Cousin Rachel, based on the Daphne Du Maurier novel.
Roger Michell (Notting Hill) is set to direct the film, which has already been adapted for the screen once before in 1952 starring Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton.
The dark romantic drama revolves around Philip, “a young orphan, who believes his mysterious, beautiful cousin Rachel may have been responsible for the murder of his beloved guardian Ambrose, also a cousin of theirs. As Philip plots his revenge, he finds his feelings complicated as he falls under Rachel’s beguiling spell.”
Weisz is certainly in demand at present, thanks to her acclaimed turns in both The Lobster and Youth. She will soon be teaming up with Michael Fassbender (Macbeth) and Alicia Vikander (Ex_Machina) to star in Derek Cianfrance’s The Light Between Oceans.
