Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling join Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time

September 8, 2016 by Gary Collinson

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are set to join Oprah Winfrey in Disney’s upcoming adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s classic children’s book A Wrinkle in Time, which is being directed by Ava DuVernay.

The site reports that Witherspoon will play “Mrs. Whatsit, a former celestial being who looks like a grandmotherly hobo,” while Kaling is portraying “the literature-quoting Mrs. Who.” Winfrey has previously been announced as playing Mrs. Which, rounding out the trio of angelic beings who assist Meg Murray, her younger brother Charles Wallace and their friend Calvin O’Keefe on their adventure to locate Meg’s father, a scientist who disappears after experimenting with time travel.

Production on A Wrinkle in Time is slated to get underway in November, with DuVernay directing from a script by Frozen scribe and co-director Jennifer Lee.
