Rian Johnson and Mark Hamill think you should avoid all Star Wars: The Last Jedi marketing

August 11, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Details on Star Wars: The Last Jedi have flowed a little more steady recently. We’ve had plenty of comments from the cast, as well as sneak peeks at some truly bizarre (and yes – adorable) alien species that will be introduced to the Star Wars universe. This is just the tip of iceberg, apparently, as director Rian Johnson himself has promised much more marketing to come… and he also suggests you don’t watch any of it. Taking his side? Luke Skywalker himself.

I fully endorse this @rianjohnson endorsement:
AVOID EVERYTHING YOU CAN FROM NOW TILL DECEMBER!!!!! #WordsOfWisdom #WellWorthWaitingForVIII https://t.co/OLgmuDpxGg

— Mark Hamill (@MarkHamill) August 10, 2017

It would be wise to take this as an indication that future marketing for The Last Jedi might be trekking into spoiler territory. This is a significant problem in Hollywood lately. Remember that Batman v. Superman trailer that essentially showed you the ending? Spider-Man: Homecoming also faced similar heat for showing too much. From everything seen and heard so far, it sounds like Rian Johnson has a lot of surprises up his sleeve with Episode VIII, and the film is probably best seen blind.

In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set for release on December 14th in the UK and December 15th in the States and sees returning cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke), Peter Mayhew and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar), Mike Quinn (Nien Nunb), Simon Pegg (Unkar Plutt), and Warwick Davis joined by new additions Jimmy Vee (Pan) as R2-D2, Kelly Marie Tran (Ladies Like Us) as Rose, and Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park).
