The trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi may only be two minutes, but that hasn’t stopped fans from pouring over every screenshot they can for details on the film. One shot in particular has raised some questions, though not necessarily about the film’s story.
The trailer briefly shows Kylo Ren brandishing his lightsaber as he prepares for a fight, but intrepid viewers have noticed something different about him: the scar he received from Rey at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is slightly different, moved closer to the right side of his face rather than the middle.

Director Rian Johnson was asked on Twitter why the scar was changed – whether it was a continuity error or simply for aesthetic. Johnson explained that it was mainly to make the scar less goofy-looking on Adam Driver as well as the fact that the scar is shown for only a couple seconds in The Force Awakens, giving them a bit more leeway to change it if need be.
“It was my decision to slightly adjust it, and that was my justification,” said Johnson. “It honestly looked goofy running straight up the bridge of his nose.” was Johnson’s full answer.
