Rian Johnson praises Solo: A Star Wars Story

February 27, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, has applauded Solo: A Star Wars Story.

We are now less than three months away from the release of the next film in the Star Wars franchise, Solo: A Star Wars Story – Lucasfilm’s first anthology movie since the release of Rogue One in 2016.

The marketing campaign is in full swing and Solo has just received a substantial endorsement from Rian Johnson – the man behind perhaps the most divisive Star Wars film in history.

Speaking to ComicBook.Com regarding the trailer for Solo, Johnson said: “I knew it was coming, but I was still…I was clicking, clicking, clicking, ‘yeah, yeah!’ And I think it looks so beautiful. I can’t wait for people to see more of the film – it’s so fun, it’s so funny. The cast is so charismatic, and I think they all just did a great job with it.”

Time will tell if audiences will respond with as much love as Johnson has to the Ron Howard directed film – Howard will certainly be hoping the applause is much more unanimous than it was for The Last Jedi.

A new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story features Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as the famous smuggler, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Tobias Beckett, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as L3-37, Emilia Clarke (Gameof Thrones) as Qi’Ra, Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Val, Ian Kenny (Sing Street) as Rebolt, Harley Durst (Wonder Woman) as Moloch, Tien Hoang (Now You See Me 2) as Moloch’s henchman and Paul Bettany (Avengers: Infinity War) and Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi) and Jon Favreau (Spider-Man: Homecoming) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on May 25th 2018.
