5: Bird-Person
Rick’s closest friend and long-time ally, Bird-Person is a dead pan, almost Vulcan like character who is, as his name would suggest, a bird. Bird-Person appears twice in Rick and Morty, once in the final episode of season one and then in the final episode of Season Two, where he is betrayed one on his wedding day by his own bride.
Bird-Person makes this list because, one, his dead pan delivery is often hilarious, and two, he really adds a lot to Rick’s character, revealing nuggets of his history that really help flesh out the crazed scientist, revealing a softer, and troubled side to him.
4: Evil Morty
Of all the characters on this list, Evil Morty is the one who is the most likely to reappear at some point down the line. Concocting a devious scheme to frame Rick for the murder of several other Ricks in different dimensions, Evil Morty appears in the tenth episode of the show’s first – ‘Close Rickcounters of the Rick Kind’.
The character’s appearance has sparked many fan theories and Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have both admitted that they have spent a lot of time discussing the return of his character. Season 3 appears to be focusing of narrative continuity than the other two seasons, so don’t be surprised if we’re not seeing Evil Morty back on our screens very soon.
3: Squanchy
Squanchy is best described as a feral cat creature who can walk on two legs and has a penchant for auto-erotic asphyxiation. Like Bird-Person, Squanchy appears in both of the show’s season finales and is also notable for his hilarious dialogue.
Squanchy is from a planet where language is dictated by context and therefore the word ‘squanch’ can be used for many purposes. No-one else in the show aside from Rick appears to be able to understand this, making for several hilarious encounters. Squanchy also has the ability to turn into a Hulk like creature when he is angry, which is pretty darn sweet too.
2: Mr Poopy ButtHole
Aside from having the best name in the history of TV, Mr Poopy ButtHole also has some of the best moments given to a supporting character in Rick and Morty. First appearing in the season 2 episode ‘Total Rickall’ Mr Poopy ButtHole is a family friend who just happens to show up for breakfast on the day where the house has been over taken by memory altering parasites.
While his appearance is only brief, it has proven popular, with the character becoming one of the show’s most loved characters. One only really rivalled by those above in on this list and the titular characters. Mr Poopy Butthole’s final moments in the show, where Beth shoots him because she can’t remember anything bad ever happening with him is also hilarious and a great red-herring to close an insane episode.
1: Mr Meeseeks
I’m Mr Meeseeks, look at me! Was there ever going to be anyone else on the top of this list? Mr Meeseeks has appeared in only one episode of the show (well, two if you count a brief cameo in an arcade scene) but his influence has been massive, with the strange blue entity becoming one of the show’s key marketing figures over the last few years.
Mr Meeseeks quite literally exist for one reason – to do whatever task you set them to do. They appear out of a magic blue box, complete their task and then die. What Rick didn’t count on though, when he handed the boxes to the family, was Jerry setting Mr Meeseeks a near impossible task – brushing two off his golf handicap. What follows is one of the best episodes in the show’s history and some of its funniest moments of all time.
