Ricky Gervais’ David Brent film Life On the Road secures financing

May 13, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

After success with The Office, Extras and Derek, actor-comedian Ricky Gervais is returning to his most iconic role of David Brent for the feature film Life On the Road, which has now secured financing.

BBC Films and Entertainment One have jointly set up a deal for the new film, which will see office manager/singer-songwriter Brent in a new documentary feature which follows his life as a travelling salesman. eOne will distribute the film in the UK as well as in New Zealand and Australia, and will look to sell the film internationally as well, which shouldn’t be too hard given the affection for the character and The Office across the globe.

On the news, Gervais said in a statement: “I’m so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies. This film delves much more into his private life than The Office ever did and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man.”

“As a writer, director and actor Ricky’s talent and ability to make people laugh puts him in a league of his own. We are delighted to be involved with this film on an international basis,” said eOne Features President Xavier Marchand.
