Ridley Scott is game to make future Alien films for Disney: “It’s crazy not to do something with it”

Director Ridley Scott wants to make more films in the Aliens franchise, regardless of the fact that Disney has made a deal to acquire 21st Century Fox.  Speaking to Digital Spy, the Alien: Covenant director had this to say:

“It looks to me that the Fox deal is certainly going to go ahead with Disney, and I’ve been with Fox for a number years now. I’m hoping I’ll still probably be there so whether or not they go ahead with such a dark subject, being Disney, as aliens remains to be seen. I think they should because I think, when people have a hard and fast franchise which has ongoing interest, it’s crazy not to do something with it.”

The Disney acquisition of 21st Century Fox has left some properties in a strange position. While it’s amazing to think about Wolverine joining the MCU, it’s harder to picture where this landmark deal leaves the Alien franchise, or the Predator series. Now, Disney CEO Bob Iger made it clear last month that he wouldn’t be interfering with the R-rated tone of the Deadpool franchise, so perhaps it will be the same for a franchise like Aliens? Though, given that Ridley Scott now wants to move the franchise away from actual aliens, perhaps it’s just best to put the series in stasis for a while?

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant sees Ridley Scott reuniting with Prometheus star Michael Fassbender and new cast additions Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Demian Bichir (A Better Life), Billy Crudup (Watchmen), Jussie Smollett (Empire), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Benjamin Rigby (That’s Not Me), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), Tess Haubrich (The Wolverine) and James Franco (Why Him?).
