Rob Marshall to re-team with Disney for Mary Poppins

September 14, 2015 by Tom Beasley

A new Mary Poppins movie is in the works over at Disney, according to a report in Entertainment Weekly, with Chicago director Rob Marshall attached to the project.

The film will retain its London setting and will take place 20 years after the events of the classic 1964 musical, utilising stories from PL Travers’ original series of children’s books.

David Magee (Life of Pi) will pen the film’s screenplay, with Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) set to compose new songs for the musical.

Marshall recently worked with Disney on fairytale musical Into the Woods and two of that film’s producers, John DeLuca and Marc Platt, are involved in the new Mary Poppins.

Hopefully, a spoonful of Disney will help the remake go down.
