Rumour: Lady Gaga wanted for Ursula role in The Little Mermaid

October 11, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Fresh from earning rave reviews alongside Bradley Cooper in the acclaimed A Star Is Born, The DisInsider is claiming that Lady Gaga is wanted for the role of the villainous sea witch Ursula in Walt Disney Pictures’ The Little Mermaid.

The live-action remake of the 1989 animated classic is being directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) from a script by Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service).

So far, there’s been no official word from Disney on casting, although Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Greatest Showman’s Zendaya has been linked to the role of Ariel – with the singer and actress expressing her interest in the part last month.

After appearing in the likes of Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, as well as American Horror Story: Hotel, Lady Gaga scored her first leading feature film role in A Star Is Born, which has seen her tipped for Oscar success. She was also apparently courted for a role in DC’s Birds of Prey, but turned down the DC movie.
