Rumour: New Star Trek TV series will take place in original continuity between The Original Series and The Next Generation

April 14, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Since the announcement of a new Star Trek series from CBS, we’ve heard a few details on the creative team behind the next chapter of the long-running sci-fi franchise – which includes former Deep Space Nine and Voyager writer Bryan Fuller as showrunner, along with Nicholas Meyer (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan) on the writing staff – but so far there’s been a complete lockdown on information about the show itself.

Well, we may now have one nugget of information about the setting for the series, with Birth.Movies.Death posting a rumour suggesting that it will take place between the events of Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Furthermore, it will exist in the original timeline, rather than that of the NuTrek continuity established by J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot.

The site also goes on to suggest that the new series will be heavily serialized, won’t take place on the Enterprise, and may still feature villainous Klingons, despite the fact that it will take place after the Khitomer Conference, which opened peace negotiations between the Federation and the Klingon Empire.

What do you make of these rumours, and what would you like to see from the new Star Trek show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
