Rumour: The new Matrix movie could be a Morpheus prequel

March 19, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Last week it was announced that Warner Bros. is rebooting The Matrix with a new movie based upon the classic sci-fi action series, with Michael B. Jordan wanted for the lead role.

Writer Zak Penn subsequently took to Twitter to confirm that the new project is not a reboot of the property, and now Birth.Movies.Death is suggesting that it is in fact a prequel based around the character of Morpheus, with Michael B. Jordan lined up for the Laurence Fishburne role.

The site also goes on to claim that Warner Bros. has established a writers room for The Matrix, suggesting the studio is looking at multiple films, and that the Morpheus idea is one of several under consideration.

Are you interested in the prospect of a Morpheus prequel, or would you prefer to see a different story with new characters? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
