Runaways co-creator Brian K. Vaughan shares his thoughts on the upcoming TV adaptation

June 1, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Brian K. Vaughan, co-creator of Marvel’s The Runaways, has seen the pilot episode for the upcoming television adaptation, and has recently spoke to CBR.com to give his thoughts on the pilot, and the project in general:

“I just did a little consulting early in the process, but I think the Runaways found the ideal ‘foster parents’ in Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. They took a weird comic set in the Marvel Universe of 2002 and lovingly adapted it into a stylish drama that feels like contemporary Los Angeles. Love the cast, crew and especially the writers they assembled. And the pilot looks like an Adrian Alphona comic! I can’t wait to watch this first season unfold.”

It is definitely a sigh of relief when the creator of any property gives an adaptation his/her blessing. Streaming proves once again to be the place for niche television. In a world where we have the Avengers soon heading into space, and a television show starring X-Men’s Legion on FX, The Runaways no longer feels like such an outlandish idea to bring to TV, and will likely be embraced by audiences. After all, Marvel Studios has had a lot of success adapting its franchises for the small screen.

Every teenager thinks their parents are evil. What if you found out they actually were? Marvel’s Runaways is the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe–their parents.

The cast of Runaways includes Ariela Barer (New Girl) as Gert Yorkes, Lyrica Okano (The Affair) as Nico Minoru, Rhenzy Feliz (Teen Wolf) as Alex Wilder, Gregg Sulkin (Anti-Social) as Chase Stein, Virginia Gardner (Goat) as Karolina Dean, Allegra Acosta (100 Things to do Before High School) as Molly Hernandez, Ryan Sands (Hat Hair, The Wire) as Geoffrey Wilder, Angel Parker (The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, The Strain) as Catherine Wilder, Brittany Ishibashi (This Is Us, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) as Tina Minoru, James Yaegashi (Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Broadway, Madame Secretary) as Robert Minoru, Kevin Weisman (Hello Ladies, Alias) as Dale Yorkes, Brigid Brannagh (Army Wives, True Colors) as Stacey Yorkes, Annie Wersching (Timeless, The Vampire Diaries) as Leslie Dean, Kip Pardue (Remember the Titans, Ray Donovan) as Frank Dean, James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) as Victor Stein and Ever Carradine (The Handmaids Tale, Goliath) as Janet Stein.
