Ryan Hurst joins The Walking Dead as the villainous Beta

August 27, 2018 by EJ Moreno

Season 9 of The Walking Dead is gaining a new foe, and he is a familiar face to many television fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter,  Ryan Hurst, known for his role on FX’s Sons of Anarchy, is joining AMC’s long-running zombie show as Beta. Fans of the comic book will recognize the name Beta and what this means for the villains in the upcoming season.

In the Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard comic book, Beta is the lieutenant of the Whisperers. The Whisperers is another group of survivors with a unique strategy; they use skin suits to blend in with the dead! Beta is said to be a brute force but also the silent type. This trait is something Ryan Hurst is known for as he played it to perfection as Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy. Expect Hurst to work perfectly alongside Samantha Morton, who is playing Whisperers leader Alpha.

Beta plays a significant role in the Whisperer War, an epic battle from the comics. An adaptation of this storyline will be the focus for the upcoming ninth season of television series.
