Get ready to go down the rabbit hole as pop singer Sabrina Carpenter is set to lead a Alice in Wonderland musical film from Wicked producer Marc Platt and Hustlers director Lorene Safaria.
The currently untitled film will be based on Lewis Carroll’s classic tale of young Alice as she travels down a rabbit hole to a fantastical world with talking animals, flowers and deadly red queens. Carpenter, who is in the middle of a world tour, approached Universal last year with an idea to turn Carroll’s story into a musical and Platt, who has produced both the Broadway play of Wicked and its two films, got attached to produce.

Carpenter will also produce while Scafaria will write the script and direct the film. The Alice musical will be produced by Universal, Marc Platt Productions and Alloy Entertainment.
The news comes after Universal bet big on Jon M. Chu’s two-part adaptation of Wicked with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. The first film blew up at the box office last year and was nominated for several awards and the conclusion Wicked: For Good will be released next week.
