Sarah Silverman joins the cast of Battle of the Sexes

March 25, 2016 by Scott J. Davis

After Bridge of Spies’ Austin Stowell was announced as joining the cast of upcoming tennis biopic Battle of the Sexes earlier this week, the film has now added Sarah Silverman (I Smile Back) to its swelling line-up reports Variety.

The new film from Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris tells the story of Billie Jean King, female tennis sensation of the 1970’s who played (and beat) retired men’s Wimbledon champ Bobby Riggs after Riggs had long criticised the female game for not being as strong as the men’s. In addition, the film will look at King’s relationships with her husband Larry King (Stowell) and her “struggles as a lesbian” and her lover Marilyn Barnett.

Oscar Nominees Emma Stone (Birdman) and Steve Carell (The Big Short) star as King and Riggs respectively, while Andrea Riseborough (Birdman) plays Barnett. Academy Award winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) has written the script for the film, with Slumdog director Danny Boyle producing through his Decibel Films company.

No official release date has been set for Battle of the Sexes, but 2017 looks most likely.
