Scarlett Johansson in talks for The Batman Part II

December 4, 2025 by Ricky Church

Matt Reeves’ anticipated The Batman Part II is nearing its production start and Deadline has reported the first potential piece of new casting for the film. According to their report, Marvel’s former Avenger Scarlett Johansson has entered talks to star opposite Robert Pattinson in the sequel.

Johansson has begun final negotiations to join the film so official news should be announced sometime in the coming weeks. As to what her role might be, it is being kept under wraps as Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin have been very secretive over the story. There are many roles she could play from fellow socialites Silver St. Cloud, Vicki Vale, Julie Madison to Batman villains Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn and others.

Returning from The Batman is Pattinson and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/The Penguin, who reprised the role in HBO’s The Penguin series and won several awards for his performance. It is likely Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis will return as Batman’s allies Jim Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth, but we have not heard anything yet about Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. It is also to be seen if Barry Keoghan will return as The Joker after his brief cameo at the end of the film.

The Batman was the first chapter in Reeves’ ‘epic crime saga’ featuring the Caped Crusader which now consists of that film, The Penguin and the upcoming sequel. Though it is a reboot of Batman on film, Reeves’ series is remaining a separate franchise from James Gunn’s DCU which officially kicked off this summer in Superman and already has several upcoming films and TV series lined up.

As of now, It and The Flash director Andy Muschietti is still attached to helm The Brave and the Bold which would introduce both Batman and Robin into the DCU, but updates on that film have been few lately, especially with Muschietti working on HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry series.

Johansson is coming off a fairly busy year for herself after starring in Jurassic World: Rebirth, The Phoenician Scheme and directing her debut film Eleanor The Great. She was recently announced to star in Mike Flanagan’s Exorcist film and will be seen next in Paper Tiger.

For now, though, production on The Batman Part II is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and will be released October 1st, 2027.

Who do you think Johansson will play in The Batman Part II? Are you excited production is gearing up for its anticipated release? Let us know on our social channels at @FlickeringMyth…
