Scarlett Johansson says Black Widow couldn’t have been made five to ten years ago

March 11, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Scarlett Johansson, the star of Black Widow, says that the film couldn’t have been made five to ten years ago.

Fans have been waiting for a Black Widow movie for years and this year it is finally happening. While there is excitement from the MCU fanbase, some are saying that they missed their moment with the movie, especially as Black Widow died during Avengers: Endgame.

Well, star Scarlett Johansson doesn’t agree, in fact, she has told EW that they couldn’t have even made the film any sooner than now: “For anyone who said to me, ‘Oh, this [Black Widow film] should’ve happened five or 10 years ago,’ I’m like, it would not have been as substantial. We just would not have been able to do it. This film is happening now as a result of what’s going on in the zeitgeist, and I think it’s pretty cool.”

Hopefully, the film can meet fans’ expectations and not only deliver a good send-off for the beloved character but also provide an important entry into the MCU.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Black Widow is being directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) and sees Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff alongside Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) as Yelena Belova, O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Mason, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) as Melina Vostokoff/Iron Maiden, and Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) and Olivier Richters (The King’s Man) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on May 1st 2020.
